Student Parking Regulations
Our active campus mandates a number of parking regulations that must be strictly enforced. Please familiarize yourself with these regulations and feel free to contact the security office concerning questions you may have at 437-5200. Further information is available in the Vassar Student Handbook.
Registration
- All student vehicles driven or parked on campus must be registered. The Security Office (located at 2490 New Hackensack Road) is open on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vehicle registration. Note: Starting with the fall semester of 2006, there will be a $100.00 fee ( $50.00 per semester) for registering a vehicle. The fee will be charged to your Vassar account.
- License plate numbers on unregistered vehicles will be researched by the Department of Motor Vehicles and the owner will be charged for all outstanding summonses. Unregistered vehicles receiving three or more summonses will be placed on the tow list (even after being registered). Those vehicles will be banned from parking on campus for the remainder of the academic year.
Parking Regulations
- Parking is permitted in authorized parking spaces only. These spaces are marked with white lines. Please note that many spaces have specific restrictions, which are posted on nearby signs and must always be observed.
- Students are not permitted to park anywhere on campus weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. A section of the South Lot and the New Hackensack Lot is available for student parking. Students are welcome to park in authorized spaces on campus after 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends.
- Freshman parking is not permitted on campus, even during the times that sophomores, juniors, and seniors will be permitted on campus (after 6 PM until 7am weekdays and all day on weekends).
- Loading passes are available at the Main Gate. These passes will allow parking in front of a residence house for a brief period while loading or unloading a vehicle.
Violations and Fines
- Registered vehicles will, after the third summons, be placed on the banned list for the remainder of the academic year. Any further violation will result in a fifty ($50.00) dollar assessment (plus any parking fine). The vehicle will be placed on the tow list for the remainder of the academic year. The vehicle will be towed and stored at owner's expense if found on campus.
- Paid tickets count toward the annual "three ticket limit" mentioned above.
- Should you loan your vehicle to anyone, you are responsible for any tickets received and will be billed accordingly.
- Banned vehicles may (after being registered) park in the South Lot or New Hackensack Lot only. Banned TH and TA residents vehicles may park in their residence lots when they display a TH or TA parking decal.
